Rites & Gospels

Two events to engage your senses this week:

On Wednesday (check it out before you get home in time for the radio show!) at the Substation, two collaborative, multi-disciplinary art pieces will be presented under the R.I.T.E.S. series.

1. “Photocopy Masterpieces, Video mirror”
by Lim Shengen & Teow Yue Han
Curated by Urich Lau
Two artists who work with video, technology and performance, use strategies that incorporates notions of time, space, interaction, making a relationship with the physical exterior, the psychological internal and visual imagery. The artists courageously test their ideas to demonstrate elements of intent and accident in the momentous and the fleeting with electronics, gadgets and time-based media.

2. “Butterflies in my stomach; bees around my head”
by Angie Seah & Aya Sekine
Curated by Lee Wen
Working together for the first time, multi-disciplinary artist, Angie Seah will collaborate with eclectic, experimental jazz pianist, Aya Sekine that will definitely ignite an electrifying, surprising action based sound work yet unheard and unseen.

On Friday at Blackhole 212, Zai Kuning launches his new CD featuring live and studio takes in Japan. Shark Fung (Engineered Beautiful Blood, I \ D, Amino Acid Orchestra), Goh Lee Kwang and Mindfuckingboy in support. More details at http://www.onisstudio.blogspot.com/

Original broadcast: January 20, 2010 (Wed), 2230-0000h (GMT +8)

In support of the good people at CHOPPA who've been diligently organising Singapore's only regular experimental and improv music night* since January 2007, FMN! presents choice cuts from the last three years of CHOPPA, as well as some favourites who will be performing at the second CHOPPA Festival, taking place on 19 (Tue), 21 (Thu) and 22 (Fri) January. My review of the inaugural festival for the Wire magazine

Sunday, December 20, 2009

have yourself... an ephemeral boxing day?

While we take a break over here to take stock of things, here's an interesting gig to look out for. Line-up includes:

* Dennis Tan aka iRa (Germany/Singapore): Based in Bremen's sonic arts scene for the last eight years, Dennis will be experimenting with a "quadrophonie playback system" at his homecoming (listen to iRa on FMN007);

* Goh Lee Kwang (Malaysia): Last seen at the 2008 Choppa Festival, the notoriously prolific "no-input" artist returns to Singapore off the back of his recent Hands release, an album described by The Wire's Dan Warburton as Lee Kwang's "most exciting and varied release since 2002's Nerve Centre".

* Amino Acid Orchestra: Zai Kuning (FMN002), Shark Fung (Engineered Beautiful Blood, I \ D) and Fuzz Lee (IF, Phorous, Life Without Dreams) play their first show together. View their promo video.
